Reported Rangers target Juan Alegria says he wants to ‘match’ the achievements of Radamel Falcao and insists he’s close to moving to Ibrox [Daily Record].

Links to the 18-year-old striker emerged earlier this week, and the Daily Record have since claimed that Rangers have been monitoring him for as long as a year.

Meanwhile, the Colombia youth international’s father has been quoted as saying he’s 90% sure that his son will join the Gers from Finnish Veikkausliiga side Honka FC.

Now, the player has claimed that a transfer is close.

“Together with my family, we are studying and finalising details to transfer me to Rangers – a great team who are the best in Scotland and highly recognised in European football,” said Alegria, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“As a striker, I believe to match the achievements of players like Radamel Falcao and Duvan Zapata – players I admire for everything they have done in Europe – I will need to work very hard.

“Since I started playing football, I have only been able to do this with the support of my parents. They have given me a lot of love and passion. So every day I fight for them. They instilled in me the value of humility. They taught me that if you are humble in your life, you will prosper.”

Steven Gerrard recently claimed that the January transfer window would be more about moving players on than bringing them in [RangersTV], but it’s looking increasingly likely that Alegria will soon be joining the club.

He has some way to go to achieve as much in the game as 91-cap Colombia hero Falcao, but if he makes a similar impact to the last South American player the Gers recruited from Finland, he’ll become a popular figure at Ibrox.

Alegria isn’t the only player Rangers are being linked with, though, with a Polish striker also reportedly on the club’s radar.
