The Gers recruited heavily in the summer, signing Kemar Roofe, Cedric Itten, Ianis Hagi, Leon Balogun, Jon McLaughlin, Calvin Bassey and Bongani Zungu.

Several fringe players like Greg Docherty and Matt Polster left Ibrox for good, but the club retained their biggest assets and have made a near flawless start to the season in both domestic and European competition.

Therefore, the manager is relatively content with his squad and expects the upcoming window to be more about moving players on than adding to the group.

“We’re always surfing, looking at players and talent and potential signings that could come in and help us – that never stops,” he said [RangersTV]. “I’m happy with where we are in terms of volume and in terms of the quality we’ve got in the squad, but if something becomes available that suits us from a financial point of view, and we think they will help the group in the second half of the season, we’ll go and try to make that happen.”

“I predict there’ll be a few more going the opposite way than actually coming in the door. I don’t think we need a number of incomings, but we might need maybe one or two to try and freshen it up.

“But they have to be good players that we think can improve the XI and improve the group, otherwise there’s not really any point in making them.”

Given the £15.9m loss recently revealed in Rangers’ annual report, it’s unsurprising that significant spending isn’t planned for January.

As things stand, though, there’s no need for wholesale changes.

The squad is still on the large side, so three or four departures would make sense, but the Gers are relatively well covered across the pitch, so unless an injury crisis strikes, there’s no pressing need to bring further bodies in the door.
