Rangers have been among a number of clubs keen on securing the services of Westerlo right-back Bryan Reynolds.
Westerlo were demanding north of £3m for Reynolds as they were aware of the interest shown in the American right-back.
Rangers tabled a bid of little over £2m initially, but that was not to the satisfaction of the Belgian club.
Which area should Rangers prioritise on strengthening this summer? 🤔
Andrew Cavenagh has made some bold promises!
Bryan Reynolds joins Stade Rennais for £3.7m fee
According to The Athletic’s Tom Bogert, Stade Rennais have won the race to secure the services of the 23-year-old.
The French side met Westerlo’s demands and will be paying £3.7m to complete the signing of the highly coveted full-back, who made 146 appearances for his club.
Rangers were seriously considering Reynolds at one stage, but following the arrival of Ross McCrorie, they cooled their interest in signing another right-back.
What is Ross McCrorie’s best position, according to you?
Rangers have brought him back to Ibrox!
Also, with Ben Godfrey arriving, they had another player who could deputise at right-back in case Dujon Sterling or McCrorie suffer injuries.
The Light Blues were also unwilling to pay what Westerlo did, to begin with, so the deal was unlikely to happen even if Rennes were not in the picture.
Rangers News understands that the club are not looking to sign another right-back as of now, and the focus is on other areas of the pitch.

Are Rangers making a mistake by not signing another right-back?
The Gers did not make any further attempts to sign Reynolds, so are unlikely to be gutted by the fact that they did not sign him.
However, their not looking to sign another right-back could backfire, given Sterling’s poor fitness record in recent years.
McCrorie, while being impressive, is not the kind of right-back to offer the same kind of attacking output as James Tavernier did.
How will you remember Jack Butland for his time as the Rangers number one?
He is good as a backup option and a utility player, as he can play in multiple positions and will come in handy during an injury crisis.
What Rangers need to win the league is to strengthen their strongest eleven, and the right-back area still remains a big weakness.
It remains to be seen if Godfrey is tried there over the next few pre-season friendlies.
