Rangers star’s 3/10 disaster class sees minnows mock display

Borna Barisic has just come back from injury with Ridvan Yilmaz more than grabbing his chance for Rangers with a string of solid performances in recent weeks.

The Croatia international is one of many established players in Gers boss Philippe Clement’s squad whose time is potentially running out at Ibrox.

After his display against Dumbarton, Borna Barisic has more than his place in the Rangers team to worry about after the League 2 side targeted the veteran left-back.

Borna Barisic horror show could see Rangers contract doubts

At 31-years old, any contract extension should just be for 12-months, if one is offered at all.

Speculation has surrounded the futures of both Rangers left-backs recently with Ridvan the subject of bids from Galatasaray and Barisic attracting interest from Italy and his homeland.

Clement is clearly happy with the young Turk’s commitment because, in his own words, he wouldn’t play him otherwise.

He also has reason to be happy with his performances because, either side of the winter break, Ridvan has shown a level of consistency that hasn’t really been prevalent during his time at Rangers.

Against Dumbarton, in horrendous weather conditions, he looked assured in possession, created a few chances and was solid in defence.

Compare this to Borna Barisic’s disaster class that saw him given a 3/10 in Rangers News’ player ratings, and it’s easy to see why he might struggle to get back into the team.

He might struggle to earn a new contract too.

To make matters worse, the Dumbarton X account also targeted him, showing a few examples of Barisic being given the run around by Kalvin Orsi.

What didn’t help his cause was that he also gave away a needless free-kick and then lost Matty Shiels, who he was supposed to be marking, to head unchallenged past a raging Robby McCrorie.

Phillippe Clement seems like a very uncomplicated character and a manager that keeps things clear and simple.

Dropping Ridvan for Borna Barisic after their respective Rangers performances doesn’t seem like the sort of thing he would do.

If there are any more like his last one, Barisic’s time, not just his place in the team, at the club might be running out.
