Rivan Yilmaz nears potential Rangers exit after Fabrizio Romano transfer claim

The transfer saga of the January transfer window for Rangers looks like being the future of Ridvan Yilmaz and the left-back position.

Against Copenhagen, the Galatasaray-linked 22-year old was once again in decent form, at both ends of the park.

With news breaking that a £3.4m bid has already been rejected, there is plenty of time left for Rangers to cash in as a possible replacement becomes more available.

Rangers exit potential nears for Ridvan Yilmaz

Benfica seem to be the club responsible for setting off something of a transfer merry-go-round.

Philippe Clement has said that going forward with one left-back isn’t an option and that a replacement will have to be found before any sale can be sanctioned.

Similar to what Benfica have done with David Jurasek.

The Czech international has hardly played for the Portuguese since signing in the summer from Slavia Prague for a hefty £12m and he is now said to be on Rangers radar as a possible loan option.

Philippe Clement will have to move fast for Rangers though because, like Ridvan Yilmaz, Jurasek has been getting a lot of attention.

Mainz are the latest side reportedly keen on the 23-year old.

There is no point having three left-backs so, the next natural step is for Rangers to make room.

Interestingly, Benfica have agreed a deal with Alvaro Fernandez that could be similar to the one that might be getting discussed with Galatasaray for Ridvan Yilmaz.

Rather than an option to buy on its own, there is an obligation to buy linked to how many appearances he makes, with an additional option as a backup.

January is never an easy time for managers to get deals over the line and Gers boss Clement is clearly frustrated at not being able to add anyone to his squad.

Maybe, just maybe, the first domino has fallen.
