Rangers star Alfredo Morelos’ agent is set to meet with Porto today ahead of a potential transfer, according to Maisfutebol via Inside Futbol.

There has been plenty of speculation linking El Bufalo with Porto in recent weeks, particularly from outlets in Portugal.

Over the weekend, Rangers fans were given hope by a Scottish Sun report that claimed the two clubs were still ‘miles away’ in terms of an agreement.

However, earlier this week, many supporters interpreted an Instagram post from the 25-year-old forward as a farewell message and now another report has claimed that a move is close.

According to Maisefutebol via Inside Futbol, the Portuguese giants remain keen on Morelos and have already broadly agreed on personal terms.

A further meeting with the Colombian international’s agent is expected today (Thursday) to discuss final details between ‘the parties involved’, with talks having ‘progressed in a positive direction’.

It’s further asserted that Porto are willing to pay €10-12m (£10.3m-8.6m) to land their man, while El Bufalo would land a five-year deal worth close to €2m (£1.7m) per year.

Perhaps most concerningly for Bears, it’s claimed that Porto is the Ibrox talisman’s preferred destination and that he has his ‘heart set’ on joining them.

Morelos to Porto?

There’s little in this report that Rangers fans will enjoy and perhaps after four years in Glasgow, Morelos is finally preparing to move on.

The amount of outlets claiming that personal terms have been agreed suggests there’s something in that claim, but when it’s asserted here that talks have ‘progressed in a positive direction’ it’s unclear whether those discussions are solely between Porto and the player’s representatives or if Rangers are becoming more receptive to a deal.

The one glaring issue remains the transfer fee.

Clearly, the pandemic has affected the transfer market, with clubs having to rein in their spending and selling clubs having to lower their expectations.

However, it’s hard to believe that the Gers would accept something in the region of £10m for a player they have repeatedly valued at £20m [Scottish Sun] during his time at the club.

There may be one or two high-profile exits at Ibrox this summer but the club are also looking to recruit, with a multi-million-pound bid reportedly being prepared for an exciting player likened to a top Premier League star.
