Some Rangers fans are fearing the worst after Alfredo Morelos’ latest Instagram post, interpreting it as a farewell to Ibrox.
Morelos joined the Gers way back in 2017 from HJK Helsinki and quickly developed a special bond with the supporters.
He’s had plenty of disciplinary issues and it took him an age to score in an Old Firm, but his time in Glasgow has been more about successes than failures.
The 25-year-old is now the club’s all-time top goalscorer in European competition and he played a key role in last season’s Premiership title win.
Therefore, it’s no surprise that there’s been plenty of transfer speculation in recent weeks.
In previous windows, Rangers have been able to hold off admirers, but Portuguese giants Porto are reportedly circling right now and Bears are on edge.
Their fears haven’t been helped by El Bufalo‘s latest social media activity, with the Colombia international posting a video on Instagram on Tuesday evening.
The two minute and 20 second long piece begins with Morelos walking out of the tunnel at Ibrox with a voiceover featuring praise from Steven Gerrard.
The clip then shows a host of Morelos’ best strikes for the Gers in domestic and European competition over the past four years.
As tends to be his style, the caption was a simple one: “RFC” followed by buffalo, love heart eyes and football emojis.
By the time of writing, it had already racked up over 6k likes and some fans left praise in the comments.
However, others interpreted it as a potential farewell message and expressed their concerns.
“Is this goodbye?” wrote one. “No, no, no, no, no, please, no, no, please do not go,” said another.
“Please Alfredo stay at Rangers! We love you – don’t go!!,” pleaded one Bear, while another added “Feels like a goodbye…” and another said, “Buff don’t do this to us Rangers fans we love you with everything.”
The number of other supporters who left similar comments or simply replied with crying emojis is an indication of just how well-liked Morelos is and whenever the day comes that he does move on, it’s sure to get very emotional.
It hasn’t all been doom and gloom for supporters this week, though, with many rejoicing after a fan favourite was snapped gearing up for the season at Auchenhowie.
