Rangers preparing multi-million-pound bid for 'next Sadio Mane' - report

Rangers are preparing a multi-million-pound bid for a player who has been described as the ‘next Sadio Mane’, according to Express Futbol.

Santiago Moreno plays for Colombian club America de Cali and the Gers have been linked with him for over a month.

Football Insider, the Telegraph, and Colombian journalist Ricardo Arce have all credited the Light Blues with interest.

Now, Express Futbol claims that a bid of €3m (£2.6m) is being readied.

It’s asserted that both Norwich City and an unnamed MLS side are also interested, while America de Cali are said to want a sell-on clause included in any potential transfer.

During the 2021 season in Colombia, Moreno played both out wide and up front, scoring six goals and notching four assists from 25 appearances.

Most Rangers fans won’t have seen this reported target in action and without more information, it’s hard to say whether or not he’d be a good addition.

However, the comparisons to Sadio Mane [TEAMtalk] are certainly encouraging and the alleged interest from newly-promoted Premier League side Norwich City is also a good sign.

Furthermore, the Gers are certainly capable of stumping up a £2.6m fee and it looks like a reasonable price for an in-demand 21-year-old.

No one has been able to nail down the right wing spot since Daniel Candeias’ Ibrox exit in the summer of 2019, either, so it makes sense that Steven Gerrard would want to strengthen in that area.

The club could reportedly have snapped up a 16-goal winger for a much cheaper £500k, but he is now officially off the market.
