The world of football transfers is a complex one shrouded in secrecy with Rangers move for Oscar Cortes one that has all the hallmarks of a modern transaction.

Having settled in immediately, Gers boss Philippe Clement will be without his star winger for most, if not all of the season due to injury but a permanent deal in the summer shouldn’t be written off just yet.

According to Nils Koppen, Rangers have been watching Oscar Cortes for some time but, on this occasion, a simple phone call isn’t how this transfer came about.

Rangers move for Oscar Cortes explained

TransferRoom does exactly what it says on the tin.

It is a huge summit where clubs, agents and directors from all over the world meet in one location.

What happens next is football’s equivalent of speed dating with 15 minute meetings opening doors for clubs looking for players and agents looking to move their clients on.

For Cortes, his agency, Top Athlete Management were in attendance at the last summit ahead of the January transfer window looking to find a new club for a player who had made the jump to European football but was struggling for game time.

Speaking after seeing Oscar Cortes get a dream move to Rangers, president and owner of the Colombian’s agency, Tomas Sarmiento, explained why they have a lot to thank TransferRoom for:

“Our main focus is finding the prominent new young talent in Colombia and looking to export them to the most prominent markets here in this side of the world.

“I think joining TransferRoom as a Trusted Agent is very much to position us in the further thinking of the football market as a whole.

“I believe that TransferRoom represents more of the cutting edge of where the market is evolving to, and it really leads you to sitting with the big boys.”

Having enjoyed success at the last summit when he landed Cortes, Koppen is heading to Rome for the next instalment with the summer recruitment plan likely to be high on the agenda.

Rangers have shown that South American talent can thrive at the club and that Oscar Cortes might not be the last to arrive – Luca Langoni at Boca Juniors said to be a possible target alongside Brazilian left-back Jefte.

It’s an exciting time to be a Rangers fan and, with this approach, an end to the uninspiring transfers of the past could well be on the cards.
