Rangers dealt “severe injury” blow as Philippe Clement reveals operation possibility

Rangers luck with injuries this season has been as bad as most fans will be able to remember with Philippe Clement providing an update on Oscar Cortes.

The Colombian winger has hit the ground running at the club and scored his first goal for the club at Ibrox last weekend in a fine performance.

After impressing almost immediately, Rangers fans might now have to wait some time before Oscar Cortes is seen in the matchday squad again.

Rangers to lose Oscar Cortes for the long term

Speaking to Rangers TV before the clash with Motherwell, Clement said:

“Oscar has a serious injury so he will be a longer time out, it’s a really strange one with the action that he did, to have a severe injury like that but, we need to look at that the next couple of days what to do with it, operation or not.”

Where do you start?

Danilo, Rabbi Matondo, Todd Cantwell, Kemar Roofe, Abdallah Sima and Tom Lawrence have all had long-term injuries this season with Oscar Cortes now joining them.

That Clement has managed to get Rangers to the top of the league, win a cup and progress in the Europa League has been nothing short of a miracle.

Cortes has proven that he can be a difference maker, beat players, create chances and make goalkeepers earn their money.

The Gers boss hasn’t put a timeline on when Cortes might be able to return but surgery to a muscle injury is never a quick fix.

It’s so frustrating losing someone who was clearly an upgrade on any other player we had in that position but we are now going to have to make do without him.

It seems that, even when we sign players who have never previously had injury problems, that they also can’t stay clear of the jinx.
