Steven Gerrard confirmed last week, that the club are looking to bring in a new striker in January.

With failed loan signing Umar Sadiq appearing to be on his way back to Roma, the feeling is that a club the size of Rangers shouldn’t be relying on just two forwards.

Dominic Solanke is a name that keeps cropping up, while this week, reports suggested Gillingham’s Tom Eaves was drawing attention.

However, perhaps Rangers need to aim a little higher. One target man who could potentially do very well at Ibrox, is Steven Fletcher.

The 32-time capped Scotland international joined Sheffield Wednesday from Sunderland on a free, in 2016. Since then, he has went on to notch a commendable 15 goals in 47 Championship appearances.

Might Wednesday be willing to sell?

Fletcher is far from the first name on the team-sheet at Wednesday. Their Portuguese international, Lucas Joao has been preferred up front in two of their last four fixtures.

By the time January rolls around, he will have just a year and a half left on his contract. That’s the kind of time his club may be willing to start listening to offers.

The big striker would also be a low risk option, as a proven goalscorer in Scotland. At the beginning of his professional career, he netted 43 times for Hibs.

This is certainly someone Rangers should keep an eye on.

While they may be priced out of a mid-season move, Fletcher could become available at a bargain price in the summer, and would be a dependable option up top for the Gers.
