Recently, there has been increasing speculation about areas in which Rangers may look to strengthen in the January transfer window. In this afternoon’s press conference, the manager confirmed that they were actively looking for a new striker.

Currently, the coaching staff can call upon the services of Alfredo Morelos, Kyle Lafferty and Umar Sadiq.

Morelos’ red-hot form has been well documented, but the other two options are, to different degrees, a cause for concern.

While Lafferty started well, the goals have dried up of late. In fact, he has failed to net in his last nine for club and country and has mainly been reduced to cameo roles.

Umar Sadiq, is a different proposition altogether. His stint on loan from Roma has been shambolic. His attitude in training has been heavily criticised and he has barely featured in a match day squad.

This being said, perhaps it is understandable that the club are in the market for an additional option.

When asked today about the potential over-reliance on Alfredo Morelos, Steven Gerrard commented that, ‘It’s an area of the team and the squad that we hopefully will add to, very soon.’

Frustratingly, however, the manager was unable to provide any further details to the media.

‘In terms of names, there’s nothing…We’re trying to identify people in that area of the pitch. That’s all I can comment on at the moment.’

Various names have been doing the rounds in recent times such as Dominic Solanke and Oli McBurnie. However, it looks as though we will have to wait a while yet before anything is confirmed.

Until then, time to speculate!
