Is Rangers’ flop forward Umar Sadiq away back to Roma? – Report

Umar Sadiq’s loan spell at Ibrox has been an unmitigated disaster, and could now be set to come to an end.

According to the Scottish Sun, Sadiq has been sent back to Italy to rejoin parent-club Roma. This comes after making only four Rangers appearances and one start at Ibrox. Summing up his loan, he failed to score a single goal during his six months at Ibrox.

There’s yet to be official confirmation, but his departure from the club in January is surely inevitable. To put it bluntly, fans can’t stand him after his inept performance in the Betfred Cup semi-final defeat to Aberdeen.

The 1-0 loss at Hampden was Sadiq’s big chance to shine in Glasgow, and undoubtedly was the biggest moment of his time here. The problem with that is the fact that he’ll only ever be remembered for a dive when through on goal.

Despite the unconvincing performances from Kyle Lafferty, Sadiq has still been nowhere near the first-team at Ibrox.

The performances of Alfredo Morelos would’ve kept Sadiq on the sidelines anyway. The Colombian has bagged 17 goals this season, making Sadiq’s chances at gaining some game-time extremely limited to say the least.

A promising signing that massively disappointed

You could see the logic in why he was signed in the summer. Gerrard needed some cover and he looked like he had the profile to suit playing at Ibrox.

Unfortunately, he’s been way under-par since arriving in Glasgow. News of any potential departure back to Italy certainly won’t surprise anyone who’s seen him play.

What this does do, if it’s true, is open up the door for another striker signing in January. The name on everyone’s lips is Dominic Solanke, but a bid has still to be made for the Liverpool forward on Rangers’ end.

It’s expected that there will be some extreme interest in the English Under-21 star, despite the fact he hasn’t featured for Liverpool at all this season. Steven Gerrard will be hoping his ties to Merseyside could help sway a deal in his favour.

Regardless, Sadiq looks like he could very well be gone according to the Sun. If that doesn’t end up being the case, then it’s surely only a matter of time before it is anyway.
