Rangers look set to add Leon Balogun to provide defensive cover and it would appear that Michael Beale isn’t done yet.
With a medical completed and talks already taken place, it would suggest that the big Nigerian was an option long before Leon King’s unfortunate injury.
He might not be the last to arrive as Rangers could be adding two more to join Leon Balogun if a report in The 4th Official is accurate.
The other names being mentioned are Danilo, Jose Cifuentes and Jonathan Panzo but a bid for the former appears to be on hold until there are departures up front.
Writing on Patreon though, The 4th Official has revealed that Rangers will be signing Leon Balogun and that there could be further additions before too long:
“As most of you have seen the rumours since yesterday, I can confirm Leon Balogun is set to be Rangers’ seventh signing this summer.
“From what I have been told, the defender has been given a one-year contract with youngster Leon King ruled out for a significant amount of time.
“Balogun has always been someone Beale has admired and at 35, he will be a short-term fix. The defender knows what the manager expects of him, so if he can be fit, there is no doubt that this can be a practical signing for Rangers.
“The club still wants to get deals done for Jose Cifuentes and Jonathan Panzo as soon as possible to get the squad assembled nice and early.”
Rangers to land Leon Balogun with two more to follow?
The squad is already looking significantly stronger and Rangers fans will be rightly excited about the season kicking off.
The timeline for Rangers signing Leon Balogun as cover for Leon King doesn’t really add up though.
King was only injured yesterday and was in the training video released today.
Balogun wouldn’t be hard to deal with in terms of his contract but the chances of him being able to get to Glasgow and get a medical booked in at such short notice is highly unlikely.
Signing Cifuentes seems like a matter of only agreeing a fee but that we aren’t far away and you would think that Panzo is now a priority too.
Great news, but the exit door has to start moving now too.
