Confusion reigns as LAFC midfielder Jose Cifuentes plays the full game for the MLS club against San Jose Earthquakes despite reports a fee has been agreed for a transfer to Rangers.
The 24-year-old Ecuadorean international star made his first start in three matches for the American club in a 1-1 Western Conference draw against the backdrop of intensifying links to Ibrox.

Jose Cifuentes has been a reported Rangers target all summer long and has been free to discuss terms with the Ibrox club ever since he entered the final six months of his contract in the USA at the turn of July.
After months of speculation and reporting in Ecuador, the USA and in Scotland, Rangers appeared to have made a breakthrough with LAFC star Jose Cifuentes in reports over the weekend.
The Daily Record are claiming that Rangers have struck a £1.2m deal with LAFC which will see the midfielder join the Gers this summer rather than at the end of his contract.
But those claims of an imminent transfer – around one month on from talk of a medical in the Glasgow Times – appear to have been rebuffed by the presence of Cifuentes in LAFC’s most recent match.
Jose Cifuentes continues to play for LAFC
It would appear that any proposed transfer to Rangers isn’t quite as far along as is being reported and there is certainly an air of confusion surrounding any deal.
Whilst there is nothing to suggest that Rangers won’t get the deal done, the fact Jose Cifuentes is still routinely turning out for LAFC would suggest the transfer isn’t all that close.

Rangers have already made six signings this summer with Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers following Kieran Dowell, Dujon Sterling, Jack Butland, Sam Lammers and Abdallah Sima into the club.
Whilst there is plenty of chatter around LAFC star Jose Cifuentes, it is not yet clear if the Ecuadorean will be number seven as Rangers pursue targets on a number of fronts.
