It’s one thing going out into the transfer market and signing players, it is another when they have been deemed surplus to requirements and need to be sold – as Rangers are finding out.
Only Robby McCrorie has been sold in a position where there was already cover with Philippe Clement having a nightmare trying to sell Sam Lammers because of his wage demands and Cyriel Dessers because of his love for the club.
Sevilla are facing a similar situation as they bend the rules in their treatment of Joan Jordan, however, the door has now opened for Rangers.

Rangers given way in to meet Sevilla demands for Joan Jordan
According to Que! Deportes, Jordan is no longer digging his heels in and is considering his options:
“It seems that Sevilla FC could end up accepting a loan in which they pay less than 50% of Joan Jordán’s salary, conditions that Rangers FC could meet in their next offer.”
One of those options is clearly Rangers with Fabrizio Romano of all people first breaking the news on X.
Even half of the £69,000 per week salary would put the 30-year old in the top end of the Ibrox earners so a permanent deal is surely out of the question, especially when La Liga outfit has already secured midfield replacements.
With over 200 appearances in La Liga and over 50 in Europe, Jordan is a great blend of experience and ability as Nils Koppen looks for a ball playing, dominant number six who can dictate the tempo of games.
Since Steven Davis got injured and then retired, the middle of the park has been lacking such a presence and not having a contingency plan in place is nothing short of negligent.
Rangers hunt for quality continues
Hopefully under the new recruitment director, this sort of mistake won’t be made again.
What is encouraging is that Sevilla now accept that they have to play fair and are keen to get Jordan off the books with Deportivo Alaves and Olympiakos also in the hunt.
The Catalan has a few options, however, the prospect of playing in the Champions League and being almost guaranteed to start every game for title contenders might just sway him to fly to Scotland.
If Rangers are to qualify for the Champions League, this is the type of player that Philippe Clement needs at his disposal and, with time fast running out, they will need to move quickly.
