Rangers have been credited with an interest in signing Elliot Watt from Motherwell after identifying a new number six as one of their transfer priorities this summer.
Stevie Clifford of the Four Lads Had A Dream blog revealed earlier in May that the Light Blues are looking to bring Watt to Ibrox this summer, alongside Ross McCrorie, who has since arrived on a three-year deal.
The interest was later confirmed by Chris Jack, who revealed that the Motherwell midfielder is under consideration at the Glaswegian outfit.
However, behind-the-scenes developments in June appear to have completely rewritten the script, causing Rangers chiefs to execute an unexpected transfer U-turn just as foreign bids begin to land on the table.

Turkish Super Lig club table multiple bids for Elliot Watt
According to the Daily Record, Rangers looked at the 26-year-old closely under Danny Rohl, but have not followed up on their interest after the German’s departure.
With Derek McInnes now in the Ibrox hot seat, it appears the Gers do not intend to take their interest in Watt forward.
Meanwhile, Turkish Super Lig outfit Samsunspor have officially tested Motherwell’s resolve, tabling two separate seven-figure offers for the midfielder.

Watt was the undisputed heartbeat of the Motherwell engine room last season, excelling under Jen Berthel-Askou after making a 2025 switch from Burton Albion.
His sparkling domestic form has seen his market value soar, but the Steelmen are standing firm.
Motherwell have knocked back both initial approaches from Turkey, making it clear that it will take a package of at least £1.75million just to get them to the negotiating table.
Samsunspor are widely expected to return with a third improved bid in the coming days.

Rangers make U-turn under Derek McInnes
The sudden drop in Rangers’ interest provides a telling insight into how the club’s recruitment hierarchy intends to reshape the team’s engine room.
Under former boss Ross, Watt’s line-breaking passing numbers made him an exceptionally attractive target for the technical style being implemented.
However, a definitive June development changed everything. Following Rohl’s sudden departure to take the reins at Red Bull Salzburg, new manager McInnes has seemingly executed a major U-turn.
The Scot is actively deciding not to follow up on the club’s existing data logs for the Motherwell midfielder.
That is not to say Rangers will definitely not step up their interest in Watt in the coming days or weeks.
