Rangers linked K. V. Kortrijk striker, Terem Moffi, is poised to join Ligue 1 club Lorient in a deal worth up to £7.3m, according to L’Equipe.

The Gers were credited with an interest in the 21-year-old striker by Het Laatste Nieuws back in July, although the player’s €5 million (£4.6m) price tag was said to be a stumbling block.

Steven Gerrard subsequently strengthened at the top end of the pitch by splashing out on both Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten, while Moffi began the 2020/21 Belgian Pro League season in the Kortrijk starting XI.

The Nigerian forward played the full 90 minutes in an opening day defeat to Waaasland-Beveren before scoring a week later in a 2-1 away win over Gent.

Since then, though, he’s been absent from multiple matchday squads and L’Equipe claim he’s now on the verge of completing a move to recently promoted Ligue 1 side FC Lorient.

The allegedly imminent deal is said to be worth between €7 million (£6.4m) and €8 million (£7.3m).

Kortrijk are set to make a significant profit from the deal after signing the player from FK Riteriai for just €350,000 in January [HLN].

Should the transfer go through, Moffi will join Adrian Grbic, another player who was linked with a move to Ibrox earlier this summer [TEAMtalk], at the Stade de Moustoir.

Rangers linked Terem Moffi to join Lorient – Verdict

The Gers have shopped in the Belgian top-flight recently so it’s entirely possible that there was a level of interest in Moffi earlier this summer.

It’s now clear why he was deemed too expensive, though, with the £7.3m fee he may join Lorient for a similar amount to that paid by Rangers for Ianis Hagi and Kemar Roofe combined.

Moffi scored 20 goals in the Lithuanian A Lyga prior to signing for Kortrijk and has shown promise so far during his time in Belgium, but Rangers’ other signings have experience in stronger European leagues.

It’s still possible that Steven Gerrard could look to add more strikers before the window ends, though, given that Lille have reportedly tabled a fresh offer for Alfredo Morelos [Pipe Sierra] and Kemar Roofe is set for a period on the sidelines with a calf injury.
