A MaLigue2 report has provided an update on the availability of Rangers and Celtic linked forward, Adrian Grbic.

Back in April, TEAMtalk reported that both the Gers and the Hoops were scouting the 23-year-old, with Premier League sides Crystal Palace and Brighton also in the hunt.

Grbic is currently plying his trade with Clermont in the second tier of French football and enjoyed an excellent campaign in front of goal.

He netted 17 times in 26 league matches as well as contributing four assists, helping his side to a fifth-place finish in a season that has been concluded early amid the global health crisis.

Given the scale of his contributions, it’s little wonder his current employers don’t want to let him go on the cheap.

MaLigue2 reports that an eight-figure sum in excess of €10 million (approximately £9 million) will be required to snap up the ‘highly coveted’ operator.

That fee has already reportedly put off top-flight outfit Stade Brestois [Le Telegramme].

Verdict

While it may be difficult to compare the standard of Ligue 2 with the Scottish Premiership, Grmic has proved himself a very capable finisher this season, whilst also establishing a reputation as something of a set-piece specialist.

Standing at 6ft 2″, the former Austrian youth international also brings a significant aerial threat.

However, while he has plenty of admirable qualities, an asking price in the region of £9 million will almost certainly rule Rangers out of contention.

The Gers spent £7.5 million on Ryan Kent last summer in one of the most expensive deals in the club’s history and in these uncertain financial times amid the global health crisis, it seems highly unlikely anything approaching that amount will be spent this time around – unless multiple current first-team players are sold.
