£4.5m fee deemed excessive as Rangers striker hunt continues – report

Rangers have been put off by the £4.5m (€5m) asking price for KV Kortrijk’s Nigerian striker Terem Moffi, according to a report in Belgium [Het Laatste Nieuws].

The Ibrox side had previously been linked with a move for the in-form striker by Score Nigeria, which suggested any potential fee could reach £1.1m

But now Rangers have reportedly retracted their interest with Jupiler Pro League side Kortrijk’s transfer demands seen to be too high.

Terem Moffi, 21, made an instant impression after signing from Lithuanian side FK Riteriai in the winter transfer window.

The young Nigerian forward hit 20 goals in 31 games for the Lithuanians and went on to score four in nine for FK Kortrijk before the season was prematurely called in Belgium [Transfermarkt].

With Rangers striker Jermain Defoe pulling up with a hamstring injury in the 4-0 friendly win over Motherwell, Ibrox gaffer Steven Gerrard admitted his side may be forced to enter the transfer window.

“The only disappointment from tonight is Jermain’s injury,” said Gerrard [Premier Sports live broadcast 22/07/20].

“We don’t know the extent of it yet. We know it’s a hamstring but until we scan it, we won’t know how long it will be.

“First and foremost we just need to stay calm and find out the extent of the injury.

“I went on record last week to say I’d like to add in that area in terms of having extra firepower so who knows? It might push us even further in that direction to try and get something done.”

Rangers have also been linked to the likes of Anderlecht forward Kemar Roofe, 27 [Voetbal 24], and Livingston’s Scottish Premiership striker Lyndon Dykes, 24 [Scottish Sun].
