Rangers-linked Colombian forward Frank Castañeda was one of the more out there links of the January transfer window but the out-of-contract star won’t be moving to Ibrox.
The ex-Sheriff Tiraspol star – who played in the famous 2-1 win over Real Madrid at the Bernebeu – had been looking for a new club after his contract expired in Moldova.
Rangers were touted as one potential option for the 27-year-old, who scored 42 goals and laid on 26 assists in 73 games at the controversial Transnistria club.
With links originating in the ordinarily reputable Sunday Post, it was interesting to see them go rather cold over the course of January.
Rangers weren’t the only club linked, with Italian clubs Empoli and Salernitana, Turkish club Samsunspor, Sochi of Russia and Bundesliga outfit Augsburg all mentioned.
But none of these clubs would wind up the destination for Frank Castañeda after the striker signed a fresh deal Polish first tier side Warta Poznan.
Rangers-linked Frank Castañeda moves to Poland
The Colombian striker obviously has some experience in Eastern Europe and a move to the Ekstraklasa perhaps could prove a sensible one.
But the news will put to bed any suggestion Rangers could move for the striker with Frank Castañeda not the only Colombian forward linked to Ibrox in January.
Rangers obviously have something of a Colombian contingent at the club now with star striker Alfredo Morelos being joined by countryman and B team talent Juan Alegria.
Joining Castañeda on the digital back pages this January was FC Sochi striker Mateo Cassierra, the striker linked to an “unnamed Scottish club” in the Russian press.

Links to Rangers coach Dave Vos and former club Ajax had plenty musing over potential Rangers interest but Mateo Cassierra, like Frank Castañeda, never joined the ranks at Ibrox.
But unlike Frank Castañeda, Cassierra is still at his current club, posting an impressive return of eight goals and three assists in 11 Russian Premier League matches.
Meanwhile, one Rangers-linked Euro star has been talking about his future as his contract ticks down in Germany.
