Rangers could make good use of the Bosman transfer market in the summer with Josh Onomah once again set to be a free agent.
The 26-year old midfielder was named as a potential target with the former Fulham man having his contract cancelled so that he could move on to pastures new.
Signing only a short-term deal with Preston, Josh Onomah will once again be open to offers as Michael Beale looks to bring quality to the engine room.

The England youth international is another Rangers-linked player that was part of his country’s Under-20 World Cup success a few years ago alongside Sheyi Ojo and Ovie Ejaria, Kieran Dowell hotly tipped to be next.
Why Rangers should still be a possibility for Onomah
Onomah would be more of forward thinking midfielder or a number eight rather than a specialist defensive or attacking midfielder.
In terms of Michael Beale’s midfield role analysis, he is closest to the spider, a link player similar to Glen Kamara in that he might not produce high numbers in terms of goals and assists but will move us up the park and bring others into play.
Speaking recently to the Lancashire Post, it doesn’t sound as if there has been too much movement from Preston in offering the former Spurs academy product a new deal and that another talented midfielder will be available in the summer:
“Who knows, but for right now I’m just focusing on the season and getting as much possible out of it.
“There have been no talks yet, I’ve just been focusing on getting as many minutes as possible and helping the team as much as I can. It makes sense to stay and that’s what we’re concentrating on, me getting as many minutes as possible, helping the team and the team getting three points.”
Michael Beale has spoken about being able to see the connection when we sign new players when the window reopens and it wouldn’t be the first time that Rangers secure a target six months after first being linked.
With such a big turnover of players needed, getting good quality players with superior technical ability on free transfers is a great way to save money for key positions.
As the signing of Todd Cantwell has shown, shopping smart is more important than spending big.
