Rangers-linked midfielder Josh Onomah has signed for Preston North End after being released by Fulham on deadline day.

The 25-year-old was linked with a switch to Ibrox heading into the January transfer window although the links had gone cold amid Ibrox interest in eventual signings Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin.

But after Josh Onomah was released from Premier League Fulham – and Michael Beale had claimed he wanted a replacement for Joe Aribo – it set tongues wagging ahead of the window closing.

Despite Rangers being mentioned as one of a number of Josh Onomah suitors, it is English Championship Preston North End where the player will be turning out from here on in.

The ex-Spurs and Aston Villa star has signed a deal until the end of the season and will hope to prove worthy of a longer term contract with the Deepdale faithful.

Speaking to official Preston media after the deal was announced, the player claims the club’s manager Ryan Lowe was a major factor in him singing.

“I’m someone who enjoys football and I believe if a manager shares that same interest then that’s something that will definitely persuade me to come,” said Josh Onomah after signing for Preston.

“He’s told me his philosophy and everything he does, and that’s made me want to come.

“I can’t wait to meet all the lads and get straight to it straight away, and I can’t wait to start playing football again.

“I think at this stage of my career it’s very important and I believe I can do that here with the players’ help and the gaffer.

“He’s spoken to me about it and he’s someone I trust, and I believe he can get me playing my best football.”

Rangers completed their own deadline day deal in Nicolas Raskin, with the Belgian midfielder singing a “long-term” deal with the Ibrox club.

But whilst the incoming deals are expected to be done for now at Ibrox, Alex Lowry could be heading out.
