Rangers-linked Isaac Price to pick between two clubs as transfer fee set

Rangers look set to miss out on one of many names linked to them as a transfer to England appears close.

Gers’ January transfer window is yet to get properly going in the direction fans would have wanted with just one signing to date – centre-back Rafael Fernandes on loan from Lille.

There has also been plenty of speculation of outgoings but the club are yet to shift on any high earners that could then have the knock-on effect of allowing them to bring quality in.

So far, only Robbie Fraser and Cole McKinnon have gone out the way, with loans to Livingston and Ayr United respectively.

Cyriel Dessers is one that has been linked with moves away as playing time gets harder to come by – but Philippe Clement insists he can only be allowed to leave if the same quality is assured of coming in.

Others like Rabbi Matondo, Tom Lawrence and Kieron Dowell are expected to find new clubs.

If those do happen, supporters will hope Rangers can find the finds to bolster their ranks.

Rangers-linked Isaac Price English Championship bound

But one man not likely to be on his way to Ibrox is Northern Ireland international Isaac Price.

The midfielder plays in Belgium with Standard Liege and was reportedly interesting Gers in this window.

The club were previously noted to have an interest when he was leaving Everton for Liege and it was claimed Ibrox chiefs had asked for a dossier on the 21-year-old this month.

However, Belgian journalist Sacha Tovolieri quickly played that down with a claim there was no interest from Rangers in Price.

It would now appear he has found himself a different club anyway with Tovolieri the one delivering the latest update, claiming the player is heading for either Preston North End or West Brom for up to €2.5million – which equates to just over £2m.

The reporter said: “Isaac Price should leave Standard Liège to join the Championship!

“Liège’s Standard are currently negotiating with Preston NE & West Brom Albion for a permanent transfer which should bring in between €2M & €2.5M for the Liège side.

“Price will be involved in the match against Sint-Truiden before leaving Liege on Monday to join England.

“These next few hours will be decisive to know who between Preston NE or WBA gets Price. More details to come.”

Rangers could have been in for Price

If the reports are true that Price is heading for the English Championship, and for just £2m, fans will wonder why Rangers weren’t in for him.

An international player who has played regularly for one of the biggest clubs in Belgium being available at that price would seem a snip.

And the fact that Gers were in for him before means they’re fully aware of the player.

Are Preston or West Brom really a bigger draw than Rangers?
