Rangers already have a new look front three in place and Danilo could join them before the transfer window shuts.
The Feyenoord striker has started pre-season with a goal and despite reports of a rejected bid, is said to remain a target for Michael Beale.
Successful Rangers teams have always been well stocked up front but Danilo might be a saga that lasts the summer, if his recent comments to Feyenoord’s media team are anything to go by.
The 22-year old would add real depth to the attack with both Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers already signed and capable of playing as number nines.
With Kemar Roofe looking sharp in training and Fashion Sakala also in the squad, Michael Beale, finally, has plenty of options.
What has Rangers target Danilo said about his future?
Ignoring recent speculation, Rangers-linked Danilo is positive about the season ahead with the Dutch giants:
“We bring in some new players, of course, it was different than last year.
“It’s always good to have good players around. We have a good team.
“We have a good team and it’s nice to play with Javairo [Dilrosun] and Igor [Paixao]. It’s easy.
“In the front area, we already had a good connection in the forward area. The players that started were already here last year.
“It’s just the beginning, of course, and we are looking to the future.”
The former Ajax academy graduate started last season in decent form only to find his minutes restricted after the World Cup in the second half of the campaign.
His age, profile and potential makes him an exciting prospect for Rangers fans and would be a real statement of intent should Danilo sign.
The obvious departure needed to make way is Antonio Colak.
With a £2m valuation and interest from Werder Bremen, shifting the Croatia international shouldn’t be an issue given that his goal scoring record last season was impressive.
Injury free and 25 goals would easily have been achievable.
Sakala’s versatility and Roofe’s contract/fitness status makes him the most likely to move on and Danilo would be the ideal long-term replacement for Alfredo Morelos.
He might be looking to the future but, hopefully, it is at Ibrox.
