Rangers-linked Copa America star lines up shock £1.3m transfer

Rangers have been linked to a host of names this transfer window as Philippe Clement sets about rebuilding the Ibrox squad.

The problem, as Clement explained following the pre-season friendly defeat to Ajax, is that Rangers will need to sell before they can buy this summer.

Given the scale of the rebuild required at the club it’s an almighty challenge for the Belgian manager and we don’t envy him as recruitment guru Nils Koppen scours the globe for potential bargains.

Now, one Copa America star who was linked to Rangers earlier in the window is closing in on a £1.3m deal elsewhere.

Rangers-linked Bair won’t be a Bear

Theo Bair has been nothing short of a revelation for Motherwell since joining the club from St Johnstone last summer.

Netting an impressive 15 times on league duties for the Steelmen, the 24-year-old earned a call-up to the Canada squad ahead of the Copa America.

Rangers were said to be watching Bair by reputable outlet the Athletic as the Ibrox club looks to rebuild a misfiring and injury-plagued frontline ahead of next season.

But for any Rangers fans who fancied an Ibrox move for the Motherwell forward, reports are spreading regarding a potential transfer move to France.

According to the likes of the Scottish Sun, Theo Bair is closing in on a £1.3m move to Auxerre in France.

This comes just hours after Bair came off the bench for Canada in the Copa America’s third place playoff against Uruguay.

After a 2-2 draw in normal time, Uruguay won a tense penalty shoot out to pick up the bronze medal.

The proposed transfer to Ligue 1 also comes after Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell insisted he wanted to keep a hold of Bair this season.

Rangers face striker transfer uncertainty

Whilst it’s unclear if Rangers were seriously interested in Theo Bair or not, it’s another link we can consign to the garbage this summer.

The Gers have been linked with a number of players across North, Central and South America this window with Brazilian left-back Jefte and Colombian winger Oscar Cortes signing Ibrox deals.

Chilean defender Thomas Galdames continues to be linked to Rangers whilst the situation around Uruguayan midfielder Damian Garcia is less clear.

In the final third, Rangers manager Philippe Clement has admitted that Hamza Igamane is not expected to be a starter at Ibrox following a £1.7m move from FAR Rabat.

Fellow striker Cyriel Dessers is one of a number of Rangers players being linked to the exit door whilst Brazilian hitman Danilo is tentatively returning from injury.

Other strikers linked to Rangers include Kosovan hitman Albion Rrahmani, who has recently told press he is fully focused on life at Rapid Bucharest.
