Rangers may well be regretting a failure to move for Lewis Ferguson as his form at Bologna generates reported £22m interest from the top of Serie A.
The son and nephew of ex-Rangers midfielders Derek and Barry, Rangers were repeatedly linked with Lewis Ferguson during ther Scotland international’s time at Aberdeen.
The Ibrox club’s failure to strike a deal for the now 24-year-old has drawn increasing scrutiny amid a rich vein of form at Italian side Bologna.
Now, those Rangers fans who’ve routinely lamented the club’s failure to sign Lewis Ferguson should look away as the latest reports point to a major transfer this summer.
Lewis Ferguson wanted by Serie A giants
As reported by Mail + and Stephen McGowan, legendary Italian quartet AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, and Napoli are all tailing Lewis Ferguson.
The report also values the midfielder at £22m and we don’t have to tell you that this categorically rules out Rangers moving for the player.
In fact, having watched Ferguson make a £1.7m switch to Bologna in 2022, the player’s meteoric rise ever since has had Rangers fans feeling a mixture of sickness and regret.
With blue blood running through the midfielder’s veins, and homegrown quotas to meet, Rangers could’ve signed a midfield martial for a generation in Lewis Ferguson.
Instead, Gers fans are looking at the biggest clubs in Italy analysing Ferguson who, given he’s gone to the next level, might only end up in Glasgow in the latter stages of his career.
Reports send homegrown Rangers message
The Lewis Ferguson situation has to be a lesson to Rangers, who have too regularly turned their noses up at successful young players in the Premiership.
The Ibrox teams of the past have always been made up of strong players from within the domestic division but only ex-Aberdeen pair Ryan Jack and Scott Wright are such players in the current squad.

Other players have came and went in Scottish football – the likes of Josh Doig and Aaron Hickey amongst the most prominent – and it’ll be interesting to see if the club changes tact.
There’s certainly one homegrown player currently plying his trade in the Scottish Premiership who is at the centre of much chatter around Rangers.
