Bologna midfielder Lewis Ferguson has been linked with a return to Rangers ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Scotland international was a youth prospect at Ibrox, but left the club without making a single senior appearance.

He thrived for four seasons at Aberdeen and has enjoyed success at Bologna, but could leave the Italian club in the coming months.

Will Rangers sack Danny Rohl if they fail to win the league?

If he goes, who would be a good replacement for him?

Derek Ferguson admits Lewis Ferguson will not return to Scotland this summer

Derek Ferguson, Lewis’ dad, has revealed that a return to Scotland is not on the cards for his son this summer.

However, he did admit that he thinks now is the right time for the 26-year-old to leave the Italian club.

He left Aberdeen after four seasons and has now spent the same amount of time at Bologna as well.

Derek believes that it is time for Lewis to embark upon another challenge, but that does not mean he will be back to play in the Scottish Premiership.

He told Frank McAvennie on his ‘Let Me Be Frank‘ podcast: “He has been there four years, I can’t speak for Lewis – I have taken a step back – but he was at Aberdeen for four years, he was relatively successful and enjoyed his time, but it was kind of the right time to leave. For me, it looks like it would be the right time as well.

“It depends, because what I know is they [Lewis’ family] love Bologna. Lewis loves everything about it, he loves the city, but it’s a short career.

“He has had a successful period at Bologna, but for me it’s whether it would be good to have another challenge?

“See knowing him, it wouldn’t be coming back to these shores, it would be going to another country.

“Being the captain helps [his career], but it’s my personal view that it would be a good time to go.”

What can Rangers fans expect from the transfer window?

With five defenders set to leave Rangers, it will come as no surprise that Danny Rohl is prioritising shoring up the back line.

Dundee’s Luke Graham is a priority and work is already underway to bring the centre-back to Ibrox this summer.

Rangers may have found their James Tavernier replacement, too, and there could be two new right-backs signed in the coming months.

Given the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Mikey Moore and Andreas Skov Olsen, the Light Blues are looking at wide players as well.

There could also be some of the existing players who are shown the door, as Rohl wants to build a team that he wants, which he believes can win the league.
