Amid reports of a Rangers bid for Danilo this week, you’d be forgiven for thinking a move for the Feyenoord striker spelled the end for a pursuit of Cremonese’s Cyriel Dessers.

After all, the Dutch champions had signed Brazilian striker Danilo to replace Nigerian forward Dessers, who was eventually relegated from Serie A with his new side after the move.

Whilst links to Cyriel Dessers have trundled on all summer long, the reports of a bid for Danilo are surprisingly fresh as the club looks to get its business done early.

But for those who’d perhaps though that a move for Danilo meant the end for the club’s pursuit of Cyriel Dessers, Heart & Hand’s latest Daily Update will have you thinking again.

Rangers in for Cyriel Dessers & Danilo

Speaking to their subscribers via the Daily Update (28/06) on their official Patreon, the leading Rangers media partners claimed that it’s not a question of either Danilo or Cyriel Dessers this summer. It’s a question of both.

This comes with Rangers also closing in on a loan deal for Brighton forward Abdallah Sima and the club lacking the necessary firepower to go toe-to-toe with Celtic in recent seasons.

“The other two names that have been very much of people’s lips are Danilo of Feyenoord and Cyriel Dessers of Cremonese,” said David Edgar.

“Rangers and Feyenoord are still talking (over Danilo). Rangers’ initial bid was dismissed by Feyenoord as being lower than what they’re after.

“Their initial asking price is a lot higher than people in Dutch football expected too, which is clearly them playing it.

“We’ve gone in low, they’ve asked high, and you would expect the clubs to meet somewhere in the middle if a deal is to be done. Still talking on that one.

“Dessers is still very much a possibility but I think there’s some frustration on Rangers’ end at the length of time that it’s taking.

“I think Rangers are getting close now to saying ‘look, give us a definitive answer one way or another, or we will be going elsewhere’.”

The most recent reports have suggested that Rangers bid £3.5m for Danilo, with Feyenoord wanting £7m, and that the club hope to sign a loan with option-to-buy for Cyriel Dessers.
