Rangers have had a second bid rejected for Hearts defender John Souttar and have yet to go in with a third, claims a leading journalist.

Jordan Campbell believes that Rangers are yet to return with a third offer for the Scotland international who signed a pre-contract at Ibrox earlier in the month.

Whilst the Athletic journalist doesn’t go into details on how much the second Ibrox bid was, this comes after Hearts rejected a reported £300k Rangers offer for John Souttar last week.

But Campbell does appear to suggest that any second offer came days before today’s deadline.

“Told Rangers have yet to come back with a deadline day offer for John Souttar,” tweets Campbell.

“The Hearts centre-back signed a pre-contract deal but I understand Rangers had two bids rejected to bring him in early. No further contact in recent days.”

Rangers yet to come back in for Hearts’ John Souttar

Despite these claims, earlier reports had suggested that there is an “expectation” Rangers will return with another offer to Hearts before the window shuts.

Hearts boss Robbie Neilson also alluded to this after his side’s 2-0 win over Motherwell at the weekend, with both Craig Halkett and Souttar picking up knocks.

“Craig will probably four to six weeks. John took a knock but he’s fine,” said Neilson [Scottish Sun].

“He’s left here OK and he’ll be back in tomorrow. And I expect he’ll be available for Tuesday if he’s still here.

“There’s been nothing new with him — although I saw they lost three goals today so I might get a phone call!

“But at this moment in time there’s been nothing.”
