Rangers are reportedly closing in on a deal for Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey as a private jet lands at Glasgow Airport and sends fans into overdrive.

The 31-year-old has been frozen out at the Serie A club and hasn’t started a match since the first game of the season with a series of Premier League sides linked throughout the window.

But on the final day of the transfer window things took a major twist as transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano set pulses racing at Rangers with the news of potential Ibrox interest in the Welsh international.

This was after Gianluca di Marzio had broken Rangers’ interest in the midfielder.

The Sky Italia journalist is also claiming that the player’s agent has flown into Glasgow and that a move is now “close”.

This was backed up by a series of Rangers fans branding the move pie in the sky, Ramsey’s famous £400k per week wages seemingly the ultimate stumbling block.

But somehow the Gers appear to have overcome this, and links are intensifying around the ex-Arsenal star who will leave Turin today.

Aaron Ramsey set to switch Juventus for Rangers?

Fabrizio Romano once again Tweeted that Rangers are “pushing” to sign the Welsh international with the move now up to Aaron Ramsey and his agent.

Then there’s the Daily Mail, who claim that Aaron Ramsey is “expected” to give the thumbs up to the Rangers move with journalists aplenty in Italy reporting on it.

Romano Agresti claims that there was a “turning point” in the Aaron Ramsey saga earlier this morning and that he has “accepted” Rangers’ offer.

The Athletic claim that Aaron Ramsey was sitting in a private area of London airport mulling over three choices.

One of these was in the Premier League – potentially Wolves, Burnley or Crystal Palace who were linked over the weekend – whilst another was a top European club.

Rangers were the third and as fans snap a plane landing at Glasgow airport before whoever is on it was taken away in a black BMW, the chatter has gone into overdrive.

How will Rangers fund the Aaron Ramsey deal?

According to TalkSPORT Juventus will be covering the majority of Aaron Ramsey’s wages with the player’s contract set to expire in 2023.

Most of the reports suggest that the move will be a loan with option-to-buy but some more details have been revealed by journalist Mirko di Natale.

di Natale claims Rangers could look to cover €2m (£1.7m) of the player’s €3.5m (£2.9m) salary for the remainder of the season which, contrary to initial reports, would be the majority of them.

However, there would be no transfer fee.

The Italian journalist later reports that the option to buy at the end of the season will be €6m (£5m). This means Rangers could wind up paying £6.7m for the player, if they opt to keep him in June.

Whatever the case, the Rangers move for Aaron Ramsey is a hugely exciting one and a major statement of intent from the Ibrox club.

Is this potentially the biggest transfer into Scotland for a generation?

Fabrizio Romano is even claiming the deal for Ramsey is “finally in place”.

Meanwhile, Rangers appear to have missed out on an ex-Chelsea kid as the club’s newest signing announces himself.
