Rangers have used the loan market to good effect in recent seasons but have never quite been able to sign those star players down to long-term contracts.
Abdallah Sima, Malik Tillman and Fabio Silva have all come into Rangers on short-term deals and left to go on to a bigger stage elsewhere.
Now Vaclav Cerny risks following suit despite Rangers’ interest in signing the Czech winger permanently come the end of his loan stint with VfB Wolfsburg this summer.
But there is one Ibrox loanee for whom the notion of a permanent switch has taken a substantial boost this week and no, it’s not Rafael Fernandes.

Neraysho Kasanwirjo impresses for Rangers
Neraysho Kasanwirjo initially impressed at Rangers after joining the club on a season-long loan from Feyenoord in the summer.
But after suffering a devastating injury in November, Kasanwirjo has spent the remainder of the campaign sidelined with major doubts surrounding the Dutch youth international’s future.
Now, Kasanwirjo made a goalscoring return to the Rangers B team, netting the opener in the eventual penalty kicks victory over Celtic in the Glasgow Cup Final at Firhill.
It was a goalscoring return which has raised hopes surrounding a potentially permanent Rangers deal.
But just how likely is a permanent Rangers move for the 23-year-old?
How much will Rangers have to pay for Neraysho Kasanwirjo?
Despite Kasanwirjo’s mid-season injury, Rangers and Feyenoord have resisted cutting short the original loan agreement.
This is despite Feyenoord struggling to ship out Luka Ivanusec on loan in January, Dutch rules restricting the number of loan players in every team’s squad.
It’s led to suggestions that Rangers are eager to see Kasanwirjo join permanently and it is believed that the Ibrox side have an option-to-buy in the defender’s loan agreement.
How much that fee is exactly is yet to be confirmed, but back in November Four Lads Had a Dream claimed the fee is ‘allegedly a bit more’ than £1.5m.
