Rangers are working on a deal to sign Lyall Cameron with the Dundee playmaker out of contract come the end of the season.

The 22-year-old has had an impressive season at Dundee and Nils Koppen had pledged to utilise the Scottish market more in Rangers’ recruitment.

Cameron too has previously spoken about playing for Rangers and suggested it would be a ‘wish’ come true if a deal were to happen.

Philippe Clement has also been asked about a potential move for Lyall Cameron but has refused to be drawn on the latest transfer links.

Rangers ‘working’ on Lyall Cameron transfer

Sky Sports report that Rangers are ‘working on a deal’ to sign Lyall Cameron with the Dundee star out of contract in the summer.

The report does not make clear if Rangers would try to strike a deal to bring Cameron to Ibrox this month, but the Gers are free to negotiate terms with the midfielder.

Alongside Rangers, unnamed clubs from abroad are also said to be tailing the midfielder as Rangers look to secure the future of the talented Scotland U21 international.

Dundee would be due training compensation for any transfer and Rangers will hope to avoid a similar situation to that of Connor Barron, which was eventually settled at tribunal.

The links come after Ibrox CEO Patrick Stewart suggested Rangers could ‘accelerate’ a transfer in January for a player they were targeting in the summer.

Rangers would have to negotiate a transfer fee with Dundee to let Lyall Cameron move to Ibrox this month.

Philippe Clement & Tony Docherty on Dundee star

Philippe Clement was asked about potential interest in Lyall Cameron by Sky Sports and refused to be drawn on the links.

It comes after Clement praised Cameron as a ‘decisive’ player ahead of Rangers’ trip to play Dundee at Dens Park last week.

“I will never speak about players in the Scottish league or outside who are not playing for the club,” said Clement.

Dundee manager Tony Docherty has also been speaking about Lyall Cameron’s situation and revealed the Dens Park side have offered the player a new contract.

But the Dee boss is well aware of interest from other sources and admitted that Cameron is currently assessing his options.

“It is no surprise when a player like that is out of contract and there will be interest in him,” said Docherty.

”It is purely speculation at the moment. We have a lot of players, six or seven who are out-of-contract at the end of the season.

“We have identified, as a club, to offer contract extensions and it is then their prerogative what they do with them. A couple have come back and said they will sign and others are exploring their options.

“Lyall is in that category. It is the business we are in and it doesn’t surprise me that there is that amount of speculation about Lyall because he is an extremely talented young footballer.”
