Rangers pursuit of Feyenoord’s Danilo took another twist this weekend when it was claimed that a deal was close to being agreed between the two sides.
Negotiations seem to be progressing well but the issue always seemed to be that the Dutch giants needed reinforcements of their own in first before they would let the 24-year old striker leave.
Interest has been reported in Ayase Ueda, Sydney van Hooijdonk and Luca Ivanusec but now, according to Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato, Feyenoord are hoping to land Calvin Sengs in a deal that could allow Rangers to get Danilo over the line.
Nice forward Sengs, who Feyenoord boss Arnie Slot has worked with before, had looked to have agreed a deal with Royal Antwerp, however, a €7m (£6m) transfer fee plus add ons bid from Feyenoord might make him reconsider.
The fee is eerily similar to the one that is said to be inching closer to agreement for Danilo.
Signing players on pre-contract agreements and free transfers is always easier but for an increase in competition, as we’ve seen with Cyriel Dessers and Danilo, things can take longer if the selling club isn’t in a rush to get rid.

It doesn’t matter if Danilo wants to come to Rangers and everything has been agreed if Feyenoord themselves can’t bring in their own targets.
Thankfully, Feyenoord seem to be winning this particular race so it might just be enough for them to let Danilo join before the proper football kicks off, even if Sengs wouldn’t be a direct replacement but an addition to the forward line in general.
Having to be patient when waiting for a player who could be a real match winner for Rangers is probably not what fans want to hear but Danilo will almost certainly be worth it.
Could they not just do us a favour and sign Alfredo Morelos, after all, he likes scoring at their ground?
