Rangers could yet face Besiktas Ridvan Yilmaz Verona sell-on clause complication

Rangers will potentially have to give a proportion of any deal to sell Ridvan Yilmaz to Verona to former club Besiktas, who boast a sell-on clause over the left-back.

Reports are suggesting that Italian side Verona are closing in on a deal for Ridvan Yilmaz who looks set to cut his five-year contract at Ibrox short.

Whilst the details of any prospective deal remain unclear, Rangers reportedly paid an initial £3.4m to sign the now 22-year-old from the Turkish side last summer.

But as Rangers look to recycle any prospective transfer fee into their squad supporters will note the comments of Besiktas when Ridvan Yilmaz left the club last summer.

Bestikas boast Ridvan Yilmaz sell-on clause

In an official statement to supporters following the transfer of Ridvan Yilmaz to Rangers, Besiktas explained they will recoup 20% of any net profit the club make on the left-back.

Also confirming that Rangers paid an initial €4m (£3.4m) to sign the defender, add-ons attached to the deal could potentially bank the Turks an additional €2.25m (£1.9m).

It is not clear how many, if any, of these add-ons have been reached over the defender’s season and a half in Glasgow.

Translated into English, the statement reads:

“Rıdvan Yılmaz was transferred to Rangers FC

“Beşiktaş Football Inc. informed KAP that an agreement has been reached with Rangers FC club for the definitive transfer of our professional football player Rıdvan Yılmaz.

“The statement sent to the Public Disclosure Platform from Beşiktaş Futbol Yatırımları Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. is as follows:

“Regarding the final transfer of our professional football player Rıdvan Yılmaz to Rangers FC Club; An agreement has been reached that 4,000,000 Euros will be a guarantee fee, 2,250,000 Euros will be a contingent fee, and in cases where the player is loaned or transferred to another club while his contract with Rangers FC is still ongoing, 20% of the net transfer income will be paid to our Company.”

Until Ridvan Yilmaz officially seals a move to Verona and we learn the transfer fees involved, then it will remain unclear if Rangers are set to hand over any cash to Besiktas.

These sorts of sell-on clauses are normal in modern football and Besiktas were clearly just protecting their interests in Ridvan Yilmaz.

There is however a catch; the Turkish international’s time at Ibrox has not gone to plan as things stand and as a result we highly doubt Rangers are banking a profit on the player.

If the Gers can break even we reckon the club will take the deal with Verona set for a double boost to their transfer coffers.

AC Milan have a medical booked to sign one of the club’s young Italian talents whilst Josh Doig – who has been linked to Rangers – has verbally agreed to join Torino.
