Rangers could cash in on Jack Butland and replace him in Bosman deal for player Michael Beale ‘watched’

Philippe Clement has had to contend with too many of his Rangers players being unavailable or out of sorts.

In difficult times, the manager will have wanted the experienced members of his squad to lead the others, however, life at Ibrox is never that straight forward.

Jack Butland isn’t fit and hasn’t been in his best form either, and Rangers could be tempted to cash in given the situation of a former target.

Rangers could land former target Angus Gunn on a free transfer

When Rangers were looking to replace Allan McGregor, several names emerged, one of which was Scotland international Angus Gunn, who had a price tag of £10m on his head in summer of 2023.

The Norwich City No.1, who is out of contract in the summer, was watched by Michael Beale and, if Nils Koppen decides to move on a valuable asset, Gunn could provide competition alongside Liam Kelly.

Gunn might not be as good as Butland at his best, but if money can be brought in to strengthen other areas, it could be a trade worth considering.

There was interest in Butland last season and, despite a dip in form, the England international should still have potential suitors.

Why is Jack Butland out injured?

Kelly was solid against Celtic, however, he should have done better at the corner that led to Hibs’ equaliser in the dramatic 3-3 draw at Easter Road.

The former Motherwell captain had earned the praise of Clement after his derby display and it looks like he will keep the gloves for some time after Butland took to social media to explain his absence:

“I really appreciate the messages, but it’s important the information is correct,” said the Rangers No.1.

“I’ve suffered a significant bleed to my leg that needed that needed hospital attention, thankfully it’s now under control and will lead to a full recovery hopefully sooner rather than later.

“Needless to say it’s come at an awful time and I was fully focused on helped us as a club.

“The most important thing now is supporting the lads and focusing on getting fit as soon as possible.”
