Rangers have confirmed the exit of midfielder Ben Williamson, who has completed a move to Hamilton Academicals.

The 22-year-old has spent the last few seasons out on loan at no fewer than five SPFL clubs but will now look to get settled at the League One outfit.

Having spent short-term spells with Arbroath, Livingston, Raith Rovers, Dundee, and Partick Thistle, Ben Williamson now begins a fresh chapter with a permanent move to Hamilton.

Ben Williamson moves to Hamilton

The former Premiership side have experienced quite the fall from grace since their top flight relegation in 2021, with the club now back fighting at the top of Scottish League One.

Despite coming through the youth Academy at Rangers, Ben Williamson failed to register a single appearance for the Ibrox side.

Whilst Rangers have handed opportunities to a series of youngsters in recent seasons, a mixture of Williamson’s extensive loan history and the stiff competition in the squad has prevented an Ibrox breakthrough.

Now the challenge is for Williamson to go to Hamilton and nail down a regular starting berth and begin to rack up first-team appearances in men’s football.

Never happened for Rangers Academy talent

Ben Williamson does have extensive experience across the divisions in Scottish football and even played with Livingston in the Premiership briefly before his season long loan was cut short in 21/22.

That spell at Dick Campbell’s Arbroath is where Ben Williamson most impressed in Scotland but since then things haven’t gone to plan and now is the time for the midfielder to get consistency.

At 22-years old he’s not exactly an inexperienced youngster and everyone at Rangers wishes the midfielder all the best at Hamilton.

Meanwhile, there are a few names who we suspect might be following Ben Williamson out of the transfer door at Rangers.

Under-fire attacker Sam Lammers has been dropped by Philippe Clement, whilst there is much speculation surrounding left-back pair Borna Barisic and Ridvan Yilmaz.
