Sam Lammers sent Philippe Clement message as January Rangers exit surely beckons

Under-fire Rangers forward Sam Lammers looks increasingly likely to leave Ibrox this January after being benched by Philippe Clement.

The 26-year-old forward, who has spent his career between number 10 and the striker position in his career, has had a disastrous first six months at the club.

Signed in the summer for a reported £3.5m from Italian side Atalanta, Michael Beale lauded Sam Lammers as a player of sizeable potential which had not yet been unlocked.

But fears about the journeyman forward’s poor stats and performances across Serie A, Serie B, and the Bundesliga over the last few seasons have come back to haunt the club.

Sam Lammers not trusted by Rangers boss

Now, with Sam Lammers failing to get off the bench in the last two matches, the rumours are that perhaps Philippe Clement and Rangers are looking at a potential solution to the situation.

The fact that the Belgian manager didn’t turn to the Dutchman when the club were looking for a goal at Celtic Park has sent alarm bells ringing at Ibrox.

That one of the club’s marquee summer signings is not trusted to come on and make an impact against our direct title rivals speaks volumes and it suggests the jig may well be up.

Ibrox boss Philippe Clement does appear to prefer Todd Cantwell in the number 10 position with Kieran Dowell also being preferred in recent matches.

Ibrox set for fresh transfer investment

Rangers are set to step up their January transfer business in the weeks ahead with the signing of Fabio Silva already bolstering a frontline in desperate need of quality investment.

Clement has explained that the Wolves forward took a wage cut to join Rangers on loan and perhaps by sending Sam Lammers out on a similar deal in January the Gers squad can balance out the wage bill.

Having spent short-term stints at Eintracht Frankfurt, Sampdoria, and Empoli in recent seasons, Sam Lammers is well used to it.

Pound-for-pound, the forward could down as amongst the worst signings in Rangers history with Atalanta likely laughing all the way to bank for recouping such a fee for the misfiring frontman.

It’s left Rangers in something of a pickle this January and we suspect Sam Lammers has already run his race in Scotland, falling somewhat flat on his face.

Save for a long-range stunner in a win over Dundee in November, there has been little to cheer about across 31 thoroughly disappointing appearances in Glasgow.
