Nottingham Forest have just extended the contract of Harry Toffolo despite being free to speak with Rangers star Borna Barisic.

The Premier League outfit – whose Director of Football-type is ex-Rangers Sporting Director Ross Wilson – have announced a new one-year deal for the left-back.

The 28-year-old has been a regular starter for Nottingham Forest as of late and Harry Toffolo will bolster the City Ground side’s squad for this season and beyond.

But there is a Rangers interest here with Nottingham Forest one of the sides who have been most routinely linked to Ibrox left-back Borna Barisic.

The Croatian international, 31, is at the centre of much contract debate with the former NK Osijek captain’s current deal at up at the end of the season.

Borna Barisic is certainly no stranger to much transfer speculation, with the Rangers star routinely linked to the exit door throughout his six season tenure.

With Nottingham Forest one of the teams most prominently linked to the Borna Barisic, other sides like AS Roma and Dinamo Zagreb have been mooted recently.

Currently out of the Rangers side due to injury, Barisic is now free to discuss terms with other clubs as speculation persists over a potential Ibrox exit.

Rangers linked to left-back transfer

The situation with Borna Barisic comes at an interesting juncture for Rangers, with the club linked to no fewer than four left-backs in this transfer window.

Philadelphia Union left-back Kai Wagner, PSV talent Fredrik Oppegard, Verona star Josh Doig, and returning Liverpool academy star Owen Beck have all been mentioned.

That’s despite the presence of Borna Barisic in the squad and the fact the club also have Turkish international Ridvan Yilmaz on the books.

It all sounds relatively ominous with regards the future of Borna Barisic, who may well be heading towards the end of not only his contract at Rangers, but his career at Ibrox too.
