Rangers have been linked with a move to sign Nathan Patterson from Everton as they eye a replacement for James Tavernier.

Tavernier is set to bring his 11-year spell at Ibrox to an end by departing the Light Blues when his contract runs out at the end of the season.

The 34-year-old has made 52 appearances across all competitions for Rangers this season, meaning his departure is certain to leave a gaping hole at right-back, as well as in the leadership department.

Nathan Patterson pitched to Rangers for a summer transfer

Therefore, Paul Dickov believes Patterson would be a solid addition for the Gers this summer transfer window.

The former Scotland international insisted that the 24-year-old is desperate for regular playing time after struggling with injuries since moving to Everton in 2022.

He is convinced that Patterson is still a top player with immense ability and feels he would do well at Rangers next season.

In Dickov’s view, there will be several clubs circling the Scot if Everton make him available this summer, but he reckons Rangers are the ideal fit.

He is keen to see Patterson revive his career at Ibrox.

Dickov told the Daily Record, via LiveFootballTickets: “Nathan Patterson is at the age where you have to be playing football.

“He’s had some unfortunate injuries, but now that he’s back, he needs game time. There’s no doubting his ability; he’s a top young defender, and a move back to Rangers would be good for him.

“If he’s available, I’m sure there’ll be plenty of clubs interested in him. But I think a move back to Rangers, where he’s comfortable and in surroundings he knows, could reignite his career.”

A four-man shortlist has been drawn up to replace James Tavernier…

Why Patterson must return from Everton

Patterson displayed his potential at Rangers before departing for Everton despite having Tavernier ahead of him.

There is a reason why the Premier League club agreed to splurge £16million to sign the right-back four years ago.

However, the Glaswegian has had a tough run of luck with injuries, which have hindered his progress at Everton.

At 24, Patterson desperately needs to revive his career, and that is why a return to Ibrox makes perfect sense for him.

His injury record remains a matter of concern for the Light Blues, but signing him on a season-long loan is certainly a risk worth taking this summer.
