James Tavernier issued an official announcement on social media on Wednesday that he will be leaving Rangers.

Only a few days before making the news official, Tavernier did an interview with the BBC in which he revealed that a new deal had not been put on the table, but did not go so far as to confirm that he would be on his way out.

However, it did not take him long to make up his mind after that, giving Rangers ample time to find a replacement ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to the Rangers Review, the right-back told the people at the club before making an official announcement about his decision.

Tavernier gathered his teammates and members of the first-team staff to address them at the training ground.

Then, he went on to speak about his decision to leave Rangers at the end of the season once his deal expires.

Following that, the club captain went on to put a statement on social media, which saw a number of former and current players shower their love.

The Englishman has cemented his status as a club legend and has been given the luxury to go out on his own terms.

How will Tavernier be remembered?

While he is the highest-scoring right-back in the history of football and a successful captain, things have not always been exceptional for him.

He has been someone whom Rangers have relied upon for years, but that has never fazed him, and he has always shown up.

Due to inconsistencies in his form, it has not helped him that there has been so much uncertainty around him.

However, not once has he moaned about fans turning on him and calling for him to be dropped, and he has continued to give it his all.

Despite his age, his fitness and availability have been exemplary, and he has continued to deliver vital goals and assists over the years.

He has been a threat from set pieces and it is going to be extremely hard to replicate what he brings to the table.
