Rangers target Elliot Watt appears all set to leave Scottish Premiership rivals Motherwell in the summer transfer window.

Watt has been on Rangers’ radar even before the transfer window opened, and it was understood that a £3m fee would be enough to bring him to Ibrox.

The 26-year-old now seems to be a step closer to leaving Fir Park as he’s in talks over a permanent exit this summer.

Which formation should Derek McInnes use at Rangers?

Given the players he's got so far, there are a number of ways that the team can play…

Motherwell in advanced talks with Samsunspor for Elliot Watt

Motherwell’s talks with Turkish club Samsunspor have reached an advanced stage as Elliot Watt appears likely to join them, according to Sky Sports.

The 26-year-old has already agreed personal terms with them, but the two clubs still have to agree on a transfer fee.

The £3m mentioned above was just Motherwell’s opening asking price, and they were open to negotiating it further.

Over the last 24 hours, they have turned down a £1m bid from Samsunspor, but an agreement is understood to be close.

Rangers News understands that while the English midfielder was on the Ibrox outfit’s radar, he has not been under consideration since Derek McInnes was appointed the manager.

The Light Blues boss has his own set of midfield targets, and has already signed two of them.

Will Rangers regret not signing Watt?

The remit for Rangers has been clear this summer: sign leaders.

They have already brought in two midfielders in Dan Neil and Cammy Devlin, who check that box and are closing in on Vanja Dragojevic, who has captained FK Partizan despite being only 20.

Rangers are also working on Jens Hjerto-Dahl’s transfer, and if they succeed, they will have signed four new midfielders this window.

McInnes does seem to be getting the midfielders he wants through the door, and Watt seemed more of a Danny Rohl target.

The Motherwell midfielder is undoubtedly talented, but given the names mentioned above and the midfielders already at Ibrox, he would struggle for regular game time.

It makes sense for him to move to Turkey, where he will be playing week in and week out and perhaps look for a bigger move in a couple of years.
