Mohamed Diomande set for medical as Nordsjælland star “has been sold“ to Rangers

Mohamed Diomande is set to become Philippe Clement’s second January signing amid reports the FC Nordsjælland star “has been sold” to Rangers.

Reputable Danish football journalist Farzam Abolhosseini is the man whose broken the story, claiming that the 22-year-old Ivorian midfielder is now set for an Ibrox medical.

The journalist, who writes for Danish outlet BT, claims in a report with the newspaper that Mohamed Diomande “has been sold” to Rangers.

It’s claimed that the midfielder will fly back from the Danish club’s USA training camp today (Sunday, 21/01) ahead of a medical at the Ibrox side.

Whilst the report does not detail a transfer fee, the midfielder’s contract is set to expire in Denmark in one year’s time.

Mohamed Diomande won’t be a name that too many Rangers fans are familiar with but the signing certainly fits the Ibrox side’s profile.

Coming from the Danish Superliga, as the club look to grow their stuttering player trading model Rangers will hope to unearth gems from the region before selling them on at high profits.

Mohamed Diomande joined FC Nordsjælland back in January 2020 via the famous Right to Dream Academy in Ghana.

Going on to make 111 appearances for the Danes since then, the midfielder boasts an impressive return of 13 goals and 14 assists.

The apparently imminent signing follows on from comments made by Philippe Clement about needing to sign young players who could eventually be sold on for higher fees.

The Gers boss also hinted at imminent new recruits after the Scottish Cup victory over Dumbarton.

Incoming Director of Recruitment Nils Koppen has also been tasked with securing bright young talents from emerging markets who can have an impact now but also for the reasons stated above.

Fans will now be YouTubing Mohamed Diomande to get some idea of the Ivory Coast U23 international’s credentials but as things stand this potential transfer appears to tick a lot of boxes.

Rangers might not be done there either with the club still on the hunt in several other positions.
