Michy Batshuayi: Rangers fans get definitive update on pursuit of Fenerbahce striker

There is “nothing” in reports linking Rangers with a move for Fenerbahce’s Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi.

That’s according to leading club insiders Heart & Hand, who claim that reports linking Rangers with a loan move for the 30-year-old are wide of the mark.

Rangers fans had gotten excited about the notion that the Gers could move for Batshuayi on a short-term deal this January.

It comes with the Fenerbahce striker out of favour in Turkey and set to leave the Istanbul club ahead of this summer’s European Championships.

There had however been major doubts surrounding Rangers’ ability to pay the hitman’s wages.

Heart & Hand aren’t the only ones who’ve moved to shut down a deal either with Sky Sports – although a little less definitively – describing a move as “unlikely”.

Every transfer window we seem to get suckered by one of these “too good to be true” transfer stories and it’s happened again with Michy Batshuayi.

The Belgian hitman would’ve represented quite the signing and a major statement of intent heading into the second half of the season.

As it transpires Rangers do not look to be leading the pack to sign the striker in what is a sizeable blow for the credibility of the original reports.

Attentions will now turn to who Rangers and Philippe Clement are actually trying to sign to fill the striker void heading into the second half of the season.

With Danilo and Kemar Roofe long-term absentees, Rangers currently only have Cyriel Dessers as the club’s only recognised number 9.

Portuguese forward Fabio Silva has also joined up with the squad on loan from Wolves until the end of the season.

January Ibrox striker transfer hunt continues

Rangers have been linked to a host of forwards who, unlike one-time £33m forward Michy Batshuayi, are yet to be ruled out by club sources.

Amongst them include £20m Nottingham Forest forward Emmanuel Dennis, who has spent a disastrous loan spell in the first half of the season out in Turkey.

There is also Hearts talisman Lawrence Shankland who continues to be linked with a January move to the Ibrox side.

Whoever comes into the club will have the weight of Ibrox expectation on their shoulders as Rangers look to mount a serious title challenge.

But it will not be Michy Batshuayi as Rangers fans lick their wounds after allowing themselves to once again get a little carried away.
