Former Rangers boss Michael Beale will have to pip Australian manager Kevin Muscat to the post if he wants to land the Millwall job.
That’s according to Football League World, who claim that Yokohama F Marinos boss Kevin Muscat is legitimately interested in replacing Gary Rowett at the Den.
This is contrast to reports earlier in the week which had suggested Kevin Muscat had ruled himself out of the running to become the next Millwall boss.
Kevin Muscat was heavily linked with taking over as the manager of Rangers before the Ibrox club plunged for Belgian manager Philippe Clement after the sacking of Michael Beale.
The entire thing is made even more interesting by murmurs surrounding free-agent Michael Beale also potentially being in the running for the Millwall gig.
Michael Beale has family links to Millwall
Whilst the headlines are centred around bookmakers odds, the Millwall chatter around Michael Beale comes with the ex-Rangers manager having previously claimed that his family are fans of the Lions.
“I am from South London, so I am aware of Millwall and have family members who are fans,” Beale said.
“I know a lot about this club. It is my personal opinion but, in the time that I can remember, I think Gary Rowett is the Millwall manager who is doing as well as anybody in terms of the way he is playing.”

Whilst we’re still waiting on anything official with regards Michael Beale and the Millwall job, the post-Rangers rumour mill continues to turn with the English manager.
Recently deactivating his Twitter account amid a minor spat with supporters, it appears Beale is looking for something to keep him busy.
It never happened for the former Ibrox assistant in the top job at Rangers and his next move could be a defining one in his so far short career as a manager.
