Rangers chose not to appoint Kevin Muscat as Michael Beale’s replacement – and he is now unlikely to become Millwall boss.
Micheal Beale was sacked earlier in October and Rangers took exactly two weeks to land his replacement.
Philippe Clement has arrived with the Belgian boss looking to rebuild his reputation again after being sacked by Monaco.
Clement won his opening game against Hibernian with a 4-0 thrashing, so it’s a case of so far, so good for the new Rangers boss.
Rangers did have other managers in mind though with one former Gers defender missing out on the job…
Kevin Muscat missed out on Rangers job
As soon as Beale lost his job, Kevin Muscat was a very popular name in the rumour mill.
The Yokohama F. Marinos boss won the J1 League title in 2022 and his history at Rangers made him a natural suggestion.
Muscat spent time with Rangers as a player in the 2000’s and The Daily Record suggested that he had shelved new contract talks in Japan.
Muscat was allegedly holding out hope of landing the Rangers job but it just wasn’t to be.
TalkSPORT noted that Muscat was informed by Rangers that he had missed out on the job with Clement getting the nod.

Muscat to Millwall now unlikely
The Australian has been getting on with business as usual in Japan but some wondered if another potential move had opened up.
Millwall parted ways with boss Gary Rowett last week and Muscat was something of a cult hero at Millwall in his playing days.
Swapping Yokohama F. Marinos for Millwall would be a bold decision and TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook now suggests that a deal is ‘unlikely’.
Muscat wants to see out the J1 League season anyway with his Marinos side in contention for another title.
Maybe Muscat just isn’t interested, maybe his timeline just doesn’t match up with Millwall’s.
Either way, it looks like this is another job Muscat won’t be securing despite connections to the club.
