Danny Rohl is understood to be a major admirer of Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland as Rangers are eyeing a squad rebuild.
Kris Boyd recently revealed why Rangers must sign Shankland this summer after finishing third in the Scottish Premiership.
The Scotland international scored 20 goals in all competitions this past season, playing a pivotal role in Hearts’ title challenge.
Would Rangers have won the league if they signed Lawrence Shankland instead of Youssef Chermiti?
Rangers want to sign Lawrence Shankland in next 48 hours
Rangers are looking to secure the services of Shankland in the next 48 hours, according to the Scottish Sun.
The 30-year-old tops Danny Rohl’s wishlist, with the German making a push to sign him ahead of the World Cup.
The Gers hierarchy want the deal finalised before the Scotland striker flies to North America to represent his country.
Russell Martin snubbed the chance to sign Shankland on a free transfer, but Rohl is willing to secure his services even if it entails the Light Blues shelling out a transfer fee.
That saw the striker signing a three-year deal at Tynecastle as he secured a pay hike at Derek McInnes’ side ahead of the 2025/26 season.

How Shankland can work with Youssef Chermiti and Ryan Naderi
Having three quality strikers to choose from is likely to be a welcome dilemma for Rohl at Rangers.
He has liked playing two strikers up top in a 4-2-2-2 system, and in Shankland, he will get someone who could thrive in that system.
The Scottish striker’s movement, along with Chermiti’s hold-up, could lead to the best striking combination in Scotland.
Is Danny Rohl’s treatment of James Tavernier a sackable offence?
He did not start Tavernier in his final Ibrox game…
He could also gel with Naderi, who is known for dropping deep and linking up play, leaving the goal-scoring responsibilities with the 30-year-old.
There is also the possibility of Shankland leading the line by himself with Chermiti playing as a number 10 or a more familiar left wing position.
This takes the goal-scoring burden off the Portuguese forward, allowing him the licence to work the channels and create havoc.
Also, having three strikers to choose from gives Rohl the option to rotate as that will be needed in weeks when the Light Blues play two games in four days.
