Rangers have been urged to finally make a move for Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland in the coming weeks.
The Light Blues had the chance to sign Shankland on a free transfer last summer, but Russell Martin pulled the plug on that deal.
Rangers opted to sign Youssef Chermiti instead, who ended up scoring 15 goals in all competitions this past season.
Would Rangers have won the league if they signed Lawrence Shankland instead of Youssef Chermiti?
Kris Boyd waxes lyrical over Lawrence Shankland’s leadership
Kris Boyd wants his former club to secure the services of Shankland, as he would bring leadership to the side.
Danny Rohl and Andrew Cavenagh have spoken about wanting more leaders and homegrown players at Ibrox.
Boyd thinks that Shankland is somebody who leads by example at Hearts and should be signed by Rangers this summer.
Which area should Rangers prioritise on strengthening this summer? 🤔
Andrew Cavenagh has made some bold promises!
The former Gers striker thinks that two or three captains should be signed this summer, so as to raise the standards inside the dressing room.
He sees Shankland as one of them and believes that securing his services would get them closer to winning the title.
Boyd said: “Well, I think you’ve seen what he’s been able to do at Hearts, he leads by example.
“I’ve got to be honest with you, I would be looking to bring in two or three captains.
“You know, I think we, as a group, when I was there, you would look at it and say, yes, Barry Ferguson was your captain, David Weir was your captain.
“But I would say there was another seven or eight that could quite easily have led the dressing room.”

How much will Shankland cost Rangers?
Rangers failed to capitalise on the chance to secure Shankland’s services on a free transfer last summer, so they will need to pay a fee for him if they are to sign him before the end of August.
Back in 2024, Shankland was valued at £3m, and that could be what Hearts will demand after the Scotland striker’s impressive 2025/26 campaign.
The 30-year-old scored 20 goals and provided six assists in 34 games in all competitions, playing a pivotal role in his side’s title charge.
While Hearts would not want to lose him, if he has his mind set on a move to Ibrox and there is genuine interest from the Gers, a transfer could surely happen.
