As Ross Wilson heads to Nottingham Forest, the Sunderland form of Amad Diallo has plenty of Rangers fans asking the question of the director.
Whilst supporters don’t know what goes on behind the scenes at Ibrox, the reported £19m Man United winger spent six months on loan at Rangers last season but didn’t spark into life until the end of his stint.

There were plenty of murmurs about potential interest in extending the loan deal, with Amad Diallo taking to life at Rangers, but a switch to Sunderland all but ended those links.
We of course don’t know how close Rangers were to a deal for Amad Diallo – if at all – but the fact the winger has been tearing it up at Sunderland has been catching Ibrox eyes.
Amad Diallo was named Man of the Match for Sunderland in a 2-1 victory against Birmingham City, the winger supplying Trai Hume’s equaliser before scoring the eventual winner.
The goal was Amad’s 12th of a productive Championship season, with the winger a fan favourite at the Stadium of Light but now set to return to Man Utd come the end of the season.
Rangers alternative fails to deliver as Amad Diallo shines at Sunderland
Whilst Rangers fans might not be savvy to the particular details of what happened with Amad Diallo, Man Utd and Sunderland, the obvious comparison to be made is Rabbi Matondo.
Rangers splashed £2m to sign the Welsh international winger, 22, with the high wages associated with the deal heaping the pressure on the ex-Schalke 04 star.
Whilst there have been shoots of recovery, and a potential Ross Wilson parting gift in the shape of a resurgent Rabbi Matondo, the winger’s failed contribution this season has had a big impact on the campaign.
Rangers fans have been calling for the troublesome right-wing berth to be filled for years and a lack of attacking ruthlessness has cost the club a proper title tilt.
Whether Rangers were close to signing Sunderland loanee Amad Diallo in the summer or not, the alternative has not delivered so far and as a result the scrutiny on now-Nottingham Forest recruitment guru Ross Wilson’s Ibrox summer business continues.
