‘Just the beginning’… Relebohile Mofokeng breaks transfer silence amid Rangers interest

Rangers are not quite back at square one, however, the summer recruitment really needs to kick into gear if the season isn’t going to be a write off.

Two of the best playmakers at the club in Todd Cantwell and Ianis Hagi are contributing nothing whilst others who were deemed not good enough a long time ago are still hanging around Auchenhowie.

Philippe Clement’s job was made harder by the Ibrox fiasco, but there is little he can do daily other than turn up at the training ground and try to make the Rangers players available better.

What the manager will also be doing, is hoping that Nils Koppen can bring new faces to the club and one Light Blues target, Relebohile Mofokeng, has spoken about his future after weeks of speculation.

Speaking to GQ, the teenage South Africa international, has set his sights higher than the Orlando Pirates and winning silverware in his homeland:

“I’m grateful for every opportunity I’ve been given. It’s a privilege to contribute to the team’s success and represent my country. But this is just the beginning. I’m focused on pushing myself further, and to achieve even greater thing.”

Vaclav Cerny has been a welcome and long-needed addition to the Rangers squad, however, it is still strange to see no other wingers being paraded at Auchenhowie.

Yusuf Kabadayi was declared as heading to Glasgow and that it was only a matter of time before he would make the move from Bayern Munich – he chose to stay in the Bundesliga and it has gone quiet since.

Kabadayi is a totally different profile to Cerny which suggests that Koppen was in the market for a wide man who met his transfer policy criteria.

Mofokeng would make immediate difference for Rangers

In the early stages of his career, 19-year old Mofokeng ticks a lot of the boxes that the recruitment director has been looking for.

He has pace, can play on either flank and has demonstrated that he can shine in senior football and on the big stage.

A composed finish in a cup final for the Pirates proving that he can handle pressure and expectation.

Having just broken into the international set-up too, Mofokeng is only going to attract more suitors even if he is tipped to find year two more difficult due to the extra attention opposition defenders will pay to him.

There is a lot to be frustrated about just now as a Rangers fan and there seems to be a stalemate in terms of transfers both in and out of the club.

They need some excitement, and a player like Mofokeng would certainly provide that.
